Similan Islands Good For Diving

The Similan Islands are located in the Phang Nga province, 90 km North-West of the Phuket (mouse click the next article). The Similan Islands include nine islands as Similan means the number nine in the Malay language. In the Similan Islands it is possible for divers to see, for example, chevron barracuda, giant trevally, manta rays, leopard sharks and rainbow runners. The dive sites in the Similan Islands can be accessed by liveaboard from Phuket – this – and Khao Lak and from Khao Lak you can also come by day trip boats. The Similan Islands have amazing reefs and rich, delicate corals and also a fantastic, wide variety of the marine life.

Good dive sites in the area are, for example, Ko Tachai which is not actually part of the Similan Islands, Stonehenge and Hide-a-way. Amazing sea life can be experienced in general when diving in Thailand. Ko Tachai has a lush tropical foliage and an under the surface ridge. At these sites you might see leopard sharks, nurse sharks or even whale sharks. Ko Tachai is located about 25km North of the region.

Stonehenge is a big towering rock formation with a vide variety of the sea life. Also big fish like leopard shark and tuna are very common in Stonehenge. As a dive site Stonehenge is very deep and the big rock formations are covered with hard coral. In Stonehenge the divers might see barracuda, barrel sponges, gorgonian sea fans, lionfish, ghost pipefish, wrasse and long nose butterfly fish.

Hide-a-way mainly includes sand bottom with cliff which are covered with coral. Usually the diving trips go from North to South and finish in a shallow area which is the good place to stop safely and snorkel. The shallow part is a brilliant place to spend the last moments in a beautiful place before heading back to the shore.
